Key Differences in Usage Specifications of Release Agents for Process Compatibility

Feb 9, 2026

When selecting and applying release agents, their compatibility with specific production processes is a core factor affecting demolding effect, product quality, and production efficiency. There are obvious differences in usage specifications between general-purpose release agents and die-casting release agents, which are specifically elaborated as follows to provide reference for industrial application.

General-purpose release agents are favored for their flexible application and wide adaptability. Their dilution ratio and spraying method can be adjusted simply according to actual production scenarios. Taking plastic processing as an example, silicone-based general-purpose release agents can be diluted at 1:50 to 1:100, and manual spraying or simple mechanical spraying can meet basic production needs. Notably, some semi-permanent general-purpose release agents are capable of realizing multiple demolding cycles without additional reapplication, which effectively improves production efficiency.

In contrast, die-casting release agents have more stringent usage specifications, which require precise matching with die-casting process parameters to ensure stable performance. Firstly, the dilution ratio needs dynamic adjustment based on the complexity of castings and the depth-width ratio of molds, generally ranging from 1:100 to 1:150. For initial use, it is recommended to start with the lowest dilution ratio to prevent mold sticking caused by excessive dilution or surface defects of castings due to insufficient dilution. Secondly, the spraying process has strict requirements: fan-shaped or conical nozzles should be adopted, the atomized particle size should be controlled between 20μm and 50μm, and the spraying distance should be maintained at 15-30cm with a vertical angle to ensure uniform coverage of the mold surface with a thin and even film layer. In addition, storage conditions also need strict compliance: it should be stored in a sealed container at 5-30℃, away from direct sunlight and low-temperature freezing, with a shelf life of usually 12 months. Expired products must pass performance re-inspection before being used. Moreover, die-casting release agents should be compatible with single-machine or centralized liquid supply systems, supporting both manual and automatic spraying modes to adapt to die-casting production lines of different scales.

To sum up, the flexible usage of general-purpose release agents makes them suitable for conventional molding processes with low process constraints, while the stringent specifications of die-casting release agents are to match the high-precision and high-temperature characteristics of die-casting processes. Grasping the detailed differences in their usage specifications is crucial for rational selection and scientific application of release agents, which helps to optimize production processes and improve the stability of end products.
