Introduction and Application Range of Modified Silicone Resin

Sep 23, 2021

Modified silicone resin is a modified silicone resin network structure copolymer, which is characterized by high hardness after film formation, up to 3-5H without fillers, strong adhesion, and good transparency. Good temperature resistance and protective coating.
Alkyd modified silicone resin coating
Alkyd modified silicone resin has excellent weather resistance and is widely used. Among them, the long-chain alkyl type alkyd modified silicone resin is especially suitable for the base material of room temperature curing weather-resistant coatings. They have a weathering life of about 10 years, which is more than twice longer than the alkyd resin coating before modification. They are widely used as protective coatings for permanent buildings and equipment, such as high-voltage transmission line towers, railways, highways, bridges, and transportation. Trucks, power stations, oil extraction equipment, outdoor chemical equipment, agricultural machinery, etc. are also commonly used as anti-corrosion protective coatings for metals and plastics, non-migration (recoating) coatings; weather resistance, chemical resistance and adhesion Good adhesion coatings; printing ink additives; high gloss coatings, etc. In addition, alkyd modified silicone resins can also be used as weather-resistant coatings for ships and factories. In these fields, the heat resistance is only required to be in the range of 100°C to 150°C. Generally, an alkyd modified silicone resin with a siloxane content of 30% can meet the application requirements.
Everyone knows that silicone resin has excellent high-temperature and low-temperature resistance, ozone resistance, weather resistance, and good dielectric properties for a long time. However, do you understand the classification of silicone resin coatings? Next, the editor will take everyone to learn more.
1. According to the coating components, it can be divided into silicone resin coatings. It can be divided into pure organic resin coatings and modified silicone resin coatings.
Pure silicone paint is formed by dissolving pure silicone resin in xylene. It has good heat resistance, weather resistance, corrosion resistance, and insulation, but it has poor mechanical strength, adhesion and long drying time. But it can be modified with other resins to improve it.
Modified silicone resin coating is a coating with modified silicone resin as the film-forming substance, including the following three types.
2. According to the purpose of the coating, it can be divided into organic silicon heat-resistant coating, organic silicon weather-resistant coating, organic silicon insulating coating, organic silicon elastic coating, and organic silicon waterproof coating.

Silicone heat-resistant coatings Heat-resistant coatings refer to coatings that can withstand temperatures above 200 for a long time. Silicone heat-resistant coatings have excellent heat-resistant properties, begin to decompose at around 300°C, and are widely used in heat-resistant coatings. Table 2 lists the common domestic silicone heat-resistant coatings. The performance of silicone heat-resistant coatings is related to the methyl/phenyl value contained in the silicone oligomer used, because the phenyl group has better heat resistance and poorer physical and mechanical properties than the methyl group.

Pigments used in silicone heat-resistant coatings should have heat resistance, and appropriate pigments should be selected according to actual requirements. The following table lists the pigments used in common silicone heat-resistant coatings and their temperatures. The anti-rust pigments can be strontium yellow and zinc phosphate. Avoid using leaded pigments in silicone heat-resistant coatings, because lead pigments will reduce the heat resistance of the coating.

Silicone insulating coating
Organic silicon insulating paint is a very important type of insulating paint, which belongs to the H-class insulating material with a heat-resistant grade of 180°C. It has excellent thermal oxidation stability and insulation properties, water resistance and moisture resistance, and a wide range of use. The insulation resistance can be used normally in a wide temperature range (-50-250°C) and high and low frequency ranges. It is worth mentioning that When it is destroyed at high temperature, it generally does not burn, does not form coke and conducts electricity, and the residue is SiO2. Silicone insulating coatings have a wide application range, and can be used as high and low temperature resistant insulating paints, silicone bonding insulating paints, silicone insulating impregnating paints, silicone insulating covering enamels, silicone insulating paints for silicon steel sheets, silicone electrical components paint, flame retardant Type organic silicon insulating coating, organic silicon moisture-proof insulating coating, etc.

Silicone weather-resistant coating
Silicone weather-resistant coatings generally use alkyd, polyester, and acrylic resin modified silicone resins. They are the most widely used type of weather-resistant coatings. Such coatings can withstand various natural changes outdoors. Alkyd modified silicone resin weather-resistant coating has a lifespan of 8-10 years. It is cheap and can be cured at room temperature. It has a wide range of applications. It can be used for the coating of outdoor facilities and equipment. The curing agent of polyester and acrylic-modified silicone resin weather-resistant coatings is melamine. Resin, used as waterproof coating for civil construction and housing.
